Hard to remember.......in fact, it's hard to remember a lot of things. When was that appointment? Where are the pacifiers? Is the diaper bag stocked? Your name and when was the last time you had a hot dinner? Undoubtedly, you're just like the rest of us: exhausted, confused, nervous, and yes.....forgetful. How could you not be? You are sleep deprived, overwhelmed, overworked, under-informed, and feeling a little bummed out about not being the perfect parent. You either are being bombarded by well meaning family and friends who are offering conflicted (yet well intentioned) pieces of information, or you feel pretty alone. Let's face it: a lot has changed since our mothers and grandmothers had babies. Families are disconnected by long distances, and the ever hectic lifestyle of our friends and neighbors makes us hesitant to ask for help. Our mothers had to choose from 3 or 4 different kinds of cribs, and our grandmothers chose between wooden or metal highchairs. Not only is formula completely different, so are diapers, pacifiers, car seats, and basically EVERYTHING about having a baby these days, other than the excitement and joy.
Then there are immunizations, allergies, feeding guidelines, safety recalls, state and federal laws for all baby furniture and installation, and a mind-numbing list of other concerns parents of babies and young children face every day. How can a new family, being so exhausted and confused, keep up with all the necessities that come along with that bundle of joy who never seems to stop needing so much?
